Privacy Policy
Sail Scan ("we", "us") is a sail-shape analysis app for sailors. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect your account email, the sail photos you capture, and basic diagnostics. We use them to run the service and improve our sail-analysis model. We don't sell your data and we don't run ads.
What we collect
- Account information. Your email address and name when you create an account. New accounts require approval before they can use the app.
- Sail photos and corrections. Photos you capture or upload for analysis, along with any stripe corrections you make, are sent to our servers to compute sail-shape measurements. They are retained and may be reviewed and annotated by our team.
- Scan results and session notes. Measurements, and any trim/session notes or instrument-panel photos you choose to add, are stored with your scans.
- Diagnostics. Basic technical information (such as IP address and approximate location derived from it) is recorded when you sign in, for security and abuse prevention.
How we use it
- To analyze your sail photos and return measurements.
- To operate accounts, approvals, and sign-in security.
- To improve our sail-analysis model. Sail photographs and corrections you submit are used to train and improve SailScan's computer vision models. In plain English: every scan helps the model learn to read sail stripes and shape more accurately for everyone.
- To communicate with you about your account (for example, password resets).
What we don't do
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not show ads or share your data with advertisers.
- We do not use your photos for anything other than providing and improving sail analysis.
Storage and services
Photos and scan data are stored with cloud infrastructure providers (currently Railway and Cloudflare). Transactional email (such as password resets) is delivered via Resend. Scan history you see in the app is also stored locally on your device.
Retention and deletion
Account data and photos are retained while your account is active. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by following our account deletion instructions; we will remove your personal information and photos from our active systems. You can also ask us to remove your scans from future model training while keeping your account library. You can delete local scan history from your device at any time in the app.
Your choices
- Camera and photo access are optional iOS permissions — the app requests them only to capture or select sail photos.
- Session notes and instrument photos are optional.
- For data questions, deletion requests, or to opt out of future model training, contact us at the address below.
Children
Sail Scan is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, we'll update this page and the date above.
